Each night of the Festival the audience, players and general public are invited to the Des Moines Social Club, housed in the Kirkwood Hotel for a very special FREE event we are calling Bring Your Own Troupe, or BYOT for short.
BYOT will begin around 10:30pm on Friday, August 16 and Saturday, August 17, immediately after the main improv shows at the Stoner Theatre. Drinks and Food will be available for purchase in the Kirkwood Building at the Gramercy Tap and Wasabi Tao.
Here's how it works:
1) Gather your troupe members
This can be members of your current troupe, friends you've made at the festival, or friends outside of your troupe. We are encouraging you to create a troupe you've never performed with before. Be creative, ask new friends. If you and a pal have always talked about doing improv while standing on your heads, well, now is your chance. Get a group together and head to the Kirkwood!
2) Sign up on the list
There will be a sign up sheet at the entrance of the Social Club theatre where you will write down the name of your troupe on a list. You will then wait your turn each group will be called, in turn, to come up and perform. Each BYOT gets 10 minutes to do whatever they want!
3) PLAY and ENJOY
This is your opportunity to experiment, so step out of the improv box and live a little. Try new formats, new methods of gathering suggestions, new intros, whatever you want! Be creative, push the envelope, step out of your comfort zone!
REMEMBER. You do NOT have to BYOT to watch BYOT. The public is welcome to just come and enjoy the ensuing chaos, laugh uproariously and congratulate the BYOTs on their bravery! Did we mention it's FREE??
Be Big! Have Fun!
